My daughter was born premature at seven months and weight only a kilogramme and a half. She was born with a serious malformation of the internal organs – she didn’t have a urethra and her bladder was on the outside of her body. There was no anus and her rectum was shorter than normal. My daughter had surgery straight after birth and then a number of others followed in order to restore the normal functioning of the intestine and the genitourinary system. The surgeries were serious and complex in nature, however problems still remain. Soon Evelyn will be heading off to school however; at the moment she must be in diapers at all times. She is growing up to be a smart and kind girl and I also wish for her to be healthy. Recently, we had a medical consultation in St Petersburg with a urologist from London, who has agreed to carry out Evelyn’s full medical examination and surgery to restore the bladder. We have three children in the family and cannot afford to pay for the treatment ourselves. Please help!
Evgeniya Babenko, St Petersburg.
Imran Mushtaq (Consultant Paediatric Urologist of the Portland Hospital, London): «The girl has a neurogenic bladder and the control over defecation is impaired. An extensive medical examination is required, followed by surgery».
Evelyn Babenko has returned home after treatment in the United Kingdom. The girl had a successful bladder enlargement operation at the Portland Hospital in London. Evelyn is now feeling well.
£5771 was raised by Rusfond UK donors. Rusfond (rusfond.ru) helped to raise the necessary funds for treatment.
Evelyn's parents, Evgeniya and Nikolai, thank everyone who helped her.
